Surgical Instructions
in Greenville, NC
Preparing for oral surgery begins before you arrive at our office. Following your pre-operative instructions helps reduce the risk of complications, supports a safe anesthesia experience, and allows your procedure to go smoothly.

Before Intravenous (IV) Sedation
- Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before your procedure, including water, coffee, gum, or mints, unless Dr. Murray has instructed otherwise.
- Avoid smoking for at least 12 hours before surgery. For the best possible healing and recovery, we encourage you to reduce or stop smoking as far in advance of your procedure as possible.
- Arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you. This person must bring you to your appointment, remain at the office during your procedure, and drive you home afterward.
- Do not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours after anesthesia. The effects of sedation can linger even if you feel alert.
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing with short sleeves or sleeves that can easily be rolled above the elbow so we can comfortably monitor you during treatment.
- Choose flat or low-heeled shoes for added safety and stability before and after your procedure.
- Remove all jewelry and removable dental appliances before your appointment, including dentures, oral piercings, facial piercings, and nasal jewelry.
- Avoid wearing lipstick, heavy makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery, as these can interfere with patient monitoring during sedation.
- Notify our office if you become ill before your appointment. Symptoms such as a cold, sore throat, fever, cough, stomach illness, or other infection may require your procedure to be rescheduled.
- Ask about your regular medications. If you take prescription medications, vitamins, blood thinners, or other routine medications, contact our office before your surgery for specific instructions.
