What Is a Sinus Lift?
A sinus lift, also known as sinus augmentation, is a procedure that increases the amount of bone in the upper jaw beneath the maxillary sinuses. The maxillary sinuses are air-filled spaces located above the upper back teeth.
When teeth have been missing for a long time, the surrounding bone gradually shrinks. In some cases, the sinuses also expand downward into the space once occupied by tooth roots, leaving insufficient bone to place dental implants.
During a sinus lift procedure, Dr. Murray creates access to the sinus area and gently lifts the sinus membrane upward. Then, he places bone grafting material beneath the membrane to increase bone volume.
Over the following months, the graft integrates with the existing jawbone, creating a stronger, more stable foundation for future implants.
