What Are Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the final set of permanent teeth to emerge, typically between the ages of 17 and 25. Most people develop four wisdom teeth—one in each corner of the mouth—but some people develop fewer, while others never develop them at all.
Although wisdom teeth once served an important purpose, modern jaws are often too small to accommodate them comfortably.
When there isn't enough space for proper eruption, wisdom teeth may remain trapped beneath the gums or grow in at an angle, increasing the risk of pain, infection, crowding, damage to neighboring teeth, and other complications.
